RENO, NV (Aug. 7) — Once a year Reno an Sparks are flooded with classic cars, entertainment and memories. Hot August Nights celebrates not only older and classic cars as well as featuring entertainment from an era gone by.
• Downtown Reno becomes a hub as there area people and cars parked along Virginia Street. Many eras of cars are represented.

In one row a group has a 1931 Ford Tudor with other more modern yet classic cars.

One car on display was a 1949 Ford Standard Coupe. The owner even had a display telling about the car.

In further down the street was a 1950 Chevy 3200 Pickup. It was decorated by a small toy on the hood, and on the spare tire another toy truck.

There were also a pair of spooky Fords that might be for a husband and wife. One, with the pink skeleton was a 1973 Maverick while the other a standard sedan.

There were many spectators walking under and by the arch. In addition there was a stage for entertainment and in the Events Center a Toy for Big Boys show.

• The Peppermill Casino uses its west parking lot for people to display their cars, cruise through and they also judge cars and award trophies. In addition there is a stage for free entertainment.

In one row there were two Ford Sedans on display. Both were 1935 Sedans that had been restored.

Close by a beautiful 1937 Chevrolet was on display. It had a large American Flag on its tailgate.

Over the next two days this lot will be packed with cars and spectators.
• Victorian in Sparks, by the Nugget is another place where cars and trucks are on display.
On Thursday, on the west side of the casino was the Women With Wheelz display. All the cars and trucks on display are owned by women, who are competing for awards, trophies and raffle prizes.

One was a pink Jeep parked next to a great looking pick up.

Close by was a British Cooper Mini complete with right hand driver. It was parked next to a reddish Chevy Pick Up.

Over on the plaza there were several lines of different vehicles. Some had their hoods raised so people could see the motors.

In front of the Nugget there were a line of cars on display.

Over by the out door stage there even more cars on display. There were also vendors and on such hot days a van selling ice cream was very popular.
• The Atlantis Casino uses its west parking lot for Hot August Nights. It’s also set up to allow people to cruise through or park in the area.

Like the Peppermill the Atlantis has many vendors selling a variety of items. There is also a stage for free entertainment, something that is part of every Hot August Nights.

Over on one row was a great looking 1951 Chevy delivery van. Even had a nice logo on its side.

Not far away was a 1929 Chevy International Sedan. It is a great looking restoration that also honors the 250th anniversary of our country.

On the radiator was a vintage cap that would tell the driver if the car was overheating.
Like the other places this area will be packed for the next two days.

• MAG Auctions once again was at the Convention Center from Wednesday through Saturday. In their booth they were selling t-shirts and neon lights for TV rooms or shops.
Each day the auction began with memorabilia, everything from signs to child’s bikes.

In the afternoon they began to sell vehicles or all types. In fact the inventory filled the main hall of the center.

Next door, where the hockey rink used to be, fans and potential buyers were sitting. While some were in the bleachers there was a VIP section on the floor.

At one end of the room is where the auctioneer was giving his chant for each car that was put in the display area. In front of the crowd were men that pointed out when an offer was made.

The auction runs through Saturday. Starts at 10 a.m. and has a 5 p.m. ending.
As of this posting there is Friday afternoon and evening as well as Saturday left for most events. This includes the Show N’ Shines, free entertainment as well as the nightly cruise downtown on Virginia Street as well as over in Sparks, by the Nugget, on Victorian.
It all ends on Sunday with a huge parade in downtown Reno where cars pass under the arch. That’s when the big trophies are handed out.
After that most folks from out of town pack up and head home while locals park their cars. Next year it all returns for the 41st anniversary and floods the area with classic cars and memories.
