RENO, NV (Aug. 12) — Well summer heat is easing and we’re well into August. This weekend is full of car, motorcycle and off-road racing events.
CAR MEETS:
• Thursday morning starts the weekend, around 8 a.m., at Kim’s Donut and Tea House in Gardnerville. Location is 1328 U.S. Highway 395 North.
- Thursday Night Thunder starts at 6 p.m. and all bikes are welcome. Location is Pinocchio’s Bar & Grill at 5995 S. Virginia Street in Reno.
• Friday has three meets going on, two for cars and one for motorcycles. Of course each cruise depends on the weather.
- Starting around 6 p.m. those in the Reno Bike Community will start gathering at the Maverik Station located at the corner of Sutro and North McCarran. Sometime around 7 p.m. it’s kickstands up.
- Over at the Northtowne parking area around 6:30 members of Old Slammers of Reno start arriving. Their weekly cruise gets going a bit after 7 p.m.
- Carson Cars & Coffee at 6:30 has their Friday Night Dutch. Location is the Dutch Bros Coffee stand at 1231 South Carson Street.
• Saturday is a busy day.
- Down in Dayton, starting at 9 a.m., is the Freedom Youth Car Show. There are games, silent raffles as well as awards handed out.
- Over in Carson City the Lodge Assisted living facility has Motors & Memories Car Show that benefits the Alzheimer’s Association. Location is 2200 E. Long Street.
- Gardnerville Cars & Coffee, starting at 10 a.m., meets at Kim’s Donuts. Location is 789 Mesa View Drive, STE 103.
- At noon in Reno, the Northern Nevada Confederation of Clubs is having a Down Riders fund-raiser. Location is Harley Davidson at 2315 Market Street.
- Over in Fernley, starting at 5 p.m., its Canal Nights Cars and Trucks Cruise in. There will be cars, trucks, food trucks plus music. Location is the Canal Wine Lounge at 1032 Inglewood Drive in Fernley.
- Shifted Performance, starting at 5 p.m., presents Import VS Domestic BBQ & Dyno Day. Its family friendly, there will be music and friendly completion. Location is 545 Depaoli Street in Reno.
- Carson Cars & Coffee, starting at 6:30 p.m., has Saturday Night Dutch. Location is the Dutch Bros Coffee at 1231 South Carson Street.
• There are five events on Sunday:
- The Nevada Car Coalition, at 9 a.m., hosts K-9’s and Classics, Car & Motorcycle Show. The proceeds go to the Douglas County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit. Location is Lampe Park in Gardnerville and its open to all makes and models of cars, trucks and motorcycles.
- Reno Jeeps & Coffee meets at 10 a.m. by the Human Bean Coffee stand on 3915 S. McCarran Blvd. It’s on the corner with Longley Lane.
- Reno Cars & Coffee also meets at 10 a.m. by the Human Bean Coffee stand located at 3380 Kietzke Lane by the corner of Kietzke and Moana Lanes.
- Carson Cars & Coffee are starting something new, the Sunday Night Dutch Bike Meet. Starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Dutch Bros Coffee at 1231 South Carson Street.
- If you are in Reno and want to wind down on Sunday try the Modelo Sunday Cruise In and Kickback. Starts at 5 p.m. and location is 195 West Plumb Lane.
RACING (4-WHEEL)
• The biggest event in our area is the Vegas to Reno “The Other Way” off-road race. It also includes motorcycles and UTVs.
Wednesday was qualifying at the Dayton Fairgrounds. On Thursday there is tech inspection, starting at 9 a.m. and functions running through the day ending at 6 p.m. with a driver’s meeting.
Friday is race day that stats at 5:45 a.m. when the Motorcycles and Quads are launched. Here is a map of the pits along the course.
• To the east Battle Mountain Race Track is racing Friday and Saturday nights. Gates should be open by 5 each night.
• Tonopah Speedway is hosting the annual Gene Winters Shootout. There are contests and the winning Dwarf Car will win $1000.
• The Reno SCCA is hosting another of its Solo (Autocross) competitions. Starts early both Saturday and Sunday at the Regional Public Safety Training Center.
PRACTICE & RACING (MOTOCROSS):
• REP Racing MX has a busy weekend. Sadly the Sandbox in Fernley is closed again.
- Riverfront MX has Thursday night practice, Friday night is race practice and Saturday is race day while Sunday is DCMX Ride days.
- This weekend REP Racing starts the Saturday Night Series.
• This weekend the P.R.O. Motocross Summer Sundayz series is at Oatfield Raceway. Saturday is practice while Sunday is race day.
• E-Street MX Park has practice from 8 until 1 both Saturday and Sunday. Both the front and back tracks will be used.
• MMX Racing is adjusting its schedule so from 8 until 1 p.m. Friday’s practice uses the Sand and Kid’s tracks. Saturday’s practice is from 8 until 1 on the Main, Sand and Kid’s tracks while Sunday’s times are 8 until 2 and the Vintage track is for a OSMX Ride Day.
RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):
• This weekend NASCAR is at Richmond. Once again every thing is behind a pay wall. However one can watch the highlights after the race on www.youtube.com.
• Thursday is filled with repeats but at 3 p.m. Speed comes on at Fox Sports 1 then at 3:30 the network airs Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour.
• Friday things go live at 8 a.m. when ROKU airs the first Formula E practice from London.
- RACER comes on at 10 a.m. as they broadcast the Best in the Desert, 2026 Casey Folks Vegas to Reno – The Other Way.
- Fox Sports 2 at noon has the first Indy Car practice from Ontario as the series races in Canada this weekend.
– The AMA Pro Motocross series is at the Unadilla track in New York. Lachlan Turner is racing in Friday’s WMX race that starts at 10:30 a.m. in the western time zone. The Gardnerville native is returning after winning the Australian women’s championship.
• Saturday starts at 12:30 a.m. when ROKU airs the second Formula E practice from London. Then at 2:40 a.m. the network broadcasts Formula E qualifying.
- Racer at 4:15 a.m. has the first DTM race from the Nurburgring. Then at 7 a.m. Fox Sports 2 has the second Indy Car practice.
- Peacock comes on at 7 a.m. with Raceday live then follows at 10 with the AMA Pro Motocross race from Unadilla. Lux Turner, who is a privateer in the 250 class is a Gardnerville native.
- ROKU comes n at 7:05 a.m. as they broadcast Round 16 of the Formula E series. Then at 11:25 Fox Sports 1 has Indy Car qualifying from Ontario. Then at 4 p.m. the USA Network has the NASCAR Cup race from Richmond.
• Sunday stats at 12:30 a.m. as ROKU has Formula E practice, then at 2:40 a.m. qualifying and at 7:55 a.m. the Formula E race from London.
- Racer is on at 4:15 with the DTM race #2 from the classic course at Nurburgring. These events used to be known at the German Touring Car series.
– Finally, at 9 a.m., FOX has the Indy Car race from Ontario, Camada. It’s another race between walls where the drivers need to be inch perfect.
