RENO, NV (July 12) — The weekend was highlighted by good weather and it cooled down just a bit on Sunday. There were several car meets as well as the next round of the Museum Cup series.

• Friday began when the Reno Bike Community gathered for its weekly ride. Location is the Maverik Station at the corner of Sutro and North McCarran.

The turnout is pretty big and there are some great people to meet. The bikes are also colorful as are some of the riders.

• That same evening, starting around 6:30 Old Slammers of Reno started to gather at the Northtowne parking lot. Everything from VW Beetles, vans and even a Thing were there for the cruise.

• On Saturday the Pit Shop Automotive Repair in Sparks held its Summer Torque Fest. There were categories for both cars and bikes.

There were hand-made trophies to be handed out, as well as prizes for the winners in each category.

Over on one end of the parking area were bikes of all types.

Besides the line along the building there was another line of cars close to the trees. In fact many owners set their chairs in the shade.

Among the cars was a beautiful 1950 Ford Custom. It even had a toy version by the front bumper.

Another was a polished 1966 Chevelle that was on display.

The motor was also chromed and polished and even had Snoopy guarding it.

Over in the row by the trees was a T-Rod with two Roadsters parked by it. All were shined up for the judging.
• Sunday started with Sparks Cars & Coffee over at the south end of Spanish Springs Valley.

The weather was a bit cooler, which helped the turnout. As usual there were many cars that had the hoods up so people could see the motors.

Over in one row two American classics were parked next to each other. One was a Harley Davidson motorcycle and the other was a red Corvette.
At most meets there is usually a blue Lamborghini owned by David Ramsey. In fact many times he allows people to sit in it.

Asked about car he said, “We’re looking at a 2025 Lamborghini Revuelto. It’s a hybrid, there’s the six and a half liter V-12 plus a battery and three electric motors. One for each front wheel plus one between the transmission and the engine that also acts as the starter and generator.

“But it’s really a performance hybrid as the pure electric range is only about 4 miles. You could put it in a mode where it stays in electric power and uses the V-12 to run the generator in real time but that’s kind of silly so I don’t do that.”
Asked if he ever had it over the speed limit he said, “perhaps.”
He actually ordered the car in early 2024 and received it May of last year. A covered truck delivered it to his driveway.
Asked how it drives he said, “It drives remarkable well, this is a good old first Lamborghini because it’s easier to get in and out of. You can haul yourself out while the doors open. Due to European noise regulations it’s a lot quieter than the Huracan and it is surprisingly smooth on the highway.
“I taken road trips with it, luggage space is a little limited but otherwise it works pretty well. And every gas station stop turns into kind of an event.”

Not far away was another American Classic, a beautiful red Chevy El Camino. Unfortunately this reporter was unable to find the owner.

Like many car that have been restored the engine is also cleaned up and on display.
Next week Reno Cars & Coffee will have its second meet of the month.
• Sunday was the next round of the Museum Cup. The National Automobile Museum has several car clubs display their cars and one winner from each round will be in the final this fall where the Museum Cup is awarded.

This time several members of the Fernley Klazzic Kruizers had their cars on display. They are all types from muscle cars, restored and altered roadsters plus some from the 1950’s and 60’s.

One of the restored vintage ones was a 1931 Ford Model A SWC.

Not far away was a restored 1955 Chevrolet 210 sedan. All cars in the display were in the running for three awards.
This reporter had a chance to talk with the president of the group, Frank Rivera.
Asked about the group he said, “Fernley Klazzic Kruizers is a car club based out of Fernley. We are centered around classic vehicles and modern muscle cars as well. Also modern Camaros, Challengers, Corvettes even some of the muscle SUV’s Jeep Recon and things like that.
“We originally had about 19 to 20 signed up, a few members dropped out unfortunately due to personal issues. Today we brought a total of 14 a well representation of our club. We’ve got some modern muscle here today along with our classics.”

Later in the afternoon the winners were announced. Rivera, shown here with his wife, won the event series award.

Their 1970 Chevelle SS has been fully restored inside and outside.

Even the engine has been polished. In fact most of the cars on display that had their hoods open sported cleaned up motors.

The People’s Choice winner was Kevin Haywood, who has a 1966 Mustang.

Representing the club in October will be Joe Spechio, as his 1976 Chevy Stepside Pick Up won the Museum Choice award.
Rivera added, “The Museum Choice winner will represent our club in the final, which is held in October.”
