This was a weekend of contrasts between two events. FALLON (Sept 24/25) – Dirt Track Championships and Super Crawl were two very different four-wheel events that dominated the racing in this area. One was fast while the other was way more technical and a heck of a lot slower. 95A SPEEDWAY: NEVADA PRO STOCKS VISIT

Another action packed evening on the largest oval track in this region. FERNLEY (Aug. 27) – 95A Speedway not only had three of its regular classes running Saturday but also the Nevada Pro Stock Association’s series. The series was running the eighth round of its 10-round series. That was the Gordon Russell Senior Memorial, which is the last Nevada Pro Stock Association round that paid $1,000 to win. AMERICAN VALLEY SPEEDWAY: NAPA GOLD RACES

Another night of racing at the Northern California oval set in the trees. QUINCY, CALIF. (Aug. 6, 2016) – American Valley Speedway hosted not only a regular points race but also the final round of the 4-race NAPA Gold Series Tour. This series alternates between here and Diamond Mountain Speedway in Susanville. LOVELOCK SPEEDWAY: FRONTIER DAY RACES

This weekend an annual event was held at a oval track in Northern Nevada. LOVELOCK, NV (July30) – Lovelock Speedway hosts two night of races during the town’s annual Frontier Days that honors its founding. This year the racing card had IMCA Modifieds, Hobby Stock, 360 Sprint Cars and Dwarf Cars. “We haven’t won all year so got this new DeVilbiss car and we’ve been working, working on it every time we’ve had it out and its getting better and better but we’re not 100% yet but we’re close,” Joel Myers said after winning Saturday’s IMCA 40-lap main.

RATTLESNAKE: CARNAGE AND CAUTIONS

It was a wild night at Rattlesnake Raceway this weekend. FALLON (July 23) – Rattlesnake Raceway had the prefect storm of multiple car cautions that made for a marathon night. This happened despite the best efforts of the track crew. Before things got rolling the track honored Jim Rains, who was a fixture there during the 1980’s and 90’s. Not only did he race but he built many cars that also competed at Rattlesnake Raceway. Even the moon wasn’t full it was a very different night of racing but the drivers rose to the occasion. FERNLEY (July 16) – 95A Speedway had an odd night this weekend. While the car count was low those drivers in attendance put on a pretty good show, even if most of the races were runaways. “With the car count being so low it was disappointing that we didn’t have any more cars than we had tonight. IRONMAN CHALLENG RECAP: PART 2

Finally the marathon was ending at the fifth track the tour visited. The Ironman Challenge, after visiting four different tracks over an eight-day period headed for its final stop; Rattlesnake Raceway outside of Fallon, Nevada. While the IMCA ranks were thinned the Hobby Stock division stayed pretty stout. For Cory Sample, the IMCA points leader both races might accomplish a milestone he wanted. Leaving 95A Speedway he has 98 victories under his belt and wanted the illusive 100th. In Sunday’s main event it appeared that Robert Miller might play the role of spoiler after leading much of the race.

IRONMAN CHALLENGE RECAP: PART 1

The Ironman Challenge recap is divided and this part covers the first four venues the tour visited. This year was the first Evenson Law Office Ironman Challenge for Hobby Stocks and IMCA Modifieds. It’s a format that favors those taking the long view as there are 10 races over a 10-day period at five different venues. According to Coordinator Steve Evenson getting tracks to host two-day events during the week was a challenge. But they did and the event started June 25th. The Ironman Challenge ended here after a marathon of short track racing. Fallon (July 4) – The Ironman Challenge finished here on the track’s traditional 4th of July race. After 10-days of racing the surviving IMCA teams as well as Hobby Stock racers and two supporting classes were set to go. Only two rounds left when the Ironman Challenge series pulled into Rattlesnake Raceway outside of Fallon. Fallon (July 3) – The Evenson Law Office Ironman Challenge pulled into its final stop on this Sunday. On the card were the IMCA, Hobby Stocks and the Pro 4’s or Mini Mods as they have been known. Ironman Challenge was a series that moved through several tracks and tested driver and crew’s skill and endurance. Evenson Law Office Ironman Challenge for IMCA Mdifieds and Hobby Stocks, it’s full title, is a series of 10-races at five tracks in a 10-day period of time ending on July 4th. This weekend was a special one for two drivers and one family that honored one they recently lost. FERNLEY (June 4) – 95A Speedway had an interesting race this weekend. One driver achieved a mile stone, another won the big prize and both drivers as well as fans paid homage to the recently deceased father of a racing family. Early in the evening the track honored Steve Rauscher, who recently passed away. His sons, Darrick and Dave race as well as some of the grandchildren, who compete in Outlaw Karts. Memorial Day weekend is the biggest racing weekend of the year and a local track had two nights of action. FALLON (May 28) – Rattlesnake Raceway hosted a two-day show this Memorial Day weekend. LOVELOCK SPEEDWAY OPENS SEASON

Finally the weather smiled and the racing season began. LOVELOCK (May 20) – Lovelock Speedway finally got its year started after having its first race rained out two weeks ago. Despite Mother Nature playing tricks all the races were able to be completed. QUINCY (May 14) – American Valley Speedway staged the first of its $1,000 to win races for the IMCA Modifieds this weekend.
