Racing preview for this week has a major event in our area plus the start of another racing season as well as what can be seen on TV and the Internet. The biggest biggest here is the annual National Championship Air Races, it’s the only place on the planet where six classes of aircraft race each other. In addition to the races there’s an air show with many acts as well as static displays of both military and civilian aircraft. The headliners this year are the Flying Blue Angels. AIR RACING UPDATE: TUESDAY, SEPT. 13

For some it was the calm before the storm, for others not so much. STEAD (Sept. 13) – Air Race Update reflects a somewhat calm Tuesday. Well calm if you qualified but for the others, well time was running out. There were also practice starts for some classes plus the first T-6 1V1 race, which was decided at the home pylon by a half of a plane length victory. Last year these were called drag races as both aircraft use a standing start. Yesterday I showed the Logo that won’t be flying. Well with some changes here is the Logo

Busy Monday at the air Races. Stead (Sept. 12) – Air Race Update for Monday is about a day full of activity. With weather moving in on Tuesday the pace was intense as the smaller and other classes all scrambled to get in practice sessions or post qualifying times. On the lighter side there was a “Moose Sighting,” by the Voodoo pits. Wild life and aviation photographer Moose Petersen, his wife and son paid a visit as they were getting a crew portrait for the team. DESERT PARK RACEWAY: NNKC ROUND 8

The NNKC season is in the stretch run, points are tight in some classes and after this race there is only one left to decided championships. STEAD (Sept. 10) – Desert Park Raceway was alive with kart racing on this Saturday as around 40 drivers, some from California, turned up to challenge the course. Unfortunately the F-80 shifter drivers decided not to compete so that class would not be on the track but should return for the final race of the season. Well here we go, Air Race week has begun and things get serious tomorrow. STEAD (Sept. 11)— Air Race Update for Sunday will be a bit short. Planes are here, tech inspections going on, seems a T-6 was disqualified for some kind of problem. However Czech Mate made it after a stop in Fresno for repair to its prop. Voodoo came in on Saturday as did most of the remaining aircraft. The F-1 and Biplane hanger is full and the sport class is filling two other hangers. Now that Labor Day has come and passed things are starting to wind down for some racers and winding up for others. Racing Preview for this week shows that fall is in the air and things are changing locally, nationally and internationally. Livfast Exit 28, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., hosts its final Saturday and Sunday practice sessions before the fall motocross season begins at the track. The last desert race for four wheeled vehicles ran this Saturday. A great car count and TV exposure is sure to boost this race and series. SALT WELLS (Aug. 3) – The Carbon Off Road Fallon 250 is two races in one; it closes out the desert racing series for VORRA and is also an Ultra 4 regional. Interesting preview this week as while things are pretty slim in our area there is action all over this Labor Day weekend. And have some late breaking news regarding an area track. Although the area’s oval tracks are dark this weekend there is still some action. Nationally and internationally there is plenty of action to see. In the local two-wheeled world the fall motocross schedule has been released. 95A SPEEDWAY: NEVADA PRO STOCKS VISIT

Another action packed evening on the largest oval track in this region. FERNLEY (Aug. 27) – 95A Speedway not only had three of its regular classes running Saturday but also the Nevada Pro Stock Association’s series. The series was running the eighth round of its 10-round series. That was the Gordon Russell Senior Memorial, which is the last Nevada Pro Stock Association round that paid $1,000 to win. It’s another summer weekend packed with racing as we head for the Labor Day weekend. Racing Preview for this weekend is full of events live, on TV and streamed over the Internet. There is something for about everybody. Locally Livfast Exit 28 will host practice from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. CARSON CITY (Aug 20) – Flat Track Racing staged a huge show Saturday, much too large to be completely covered in one article. So this is part two. FLAT TRACK RACING RETURNS TO CARSON CITY

After a decades long absence a popular event returned to our area. CARSON CITY (Aug. 29) – Flat Track Racing returned to Northern Nevada this weekend thanks to the combined efforts of On Trak Promotions and the California Flat Track Association (CFTA). The result was a sell out crowd of 1,600 fans as well as over 150 entries and 27 pros from several disciplines arrived to race on the paper clip shaped track The afternoon was a blizzard of heat races and amateur mains. In the evening the main show would end with the Open Pro racing for the money.

SUNDAY WAS A LITTLE MILDER AND SLIGHTLY COOLER FOR THE SECOND DAY OF THE RACES. SPARKS, NV (AUG 14) Lucas Oil Off Road Series ended its two-day visit to the Wild West Motorsports Park on a slightly cooler day than Saturday.
