Another season begins with the Desert Fox schooling his younger competitors NIGHTINGALE (Feb. 14.) – As is traditional, MRANN (Motorcycle Racing Association of Northern Nevada) began its season on President’s Day weekend. And a large field of big bike riders showed up for Sunday’s race. This time not only was there speed but some passions were fired up during the event that consisted of one 43-mile loop followed by a 53-mile loop. It’s finally here, the long wait is over as it’s the start of season when motors roar and the green flags wave. Racing preview this time has a host of events that one can view as well as the first race in our area to get this season started. East of Fernley and 10 miles north of the Nightingale exit on I-80 is where the Trail Blazers motorcycle club will host the first MRANN race of the year. OVER THE HILL GANG AWARDS BANQUET

One more awards banquet before racing begins in this area. RENO (Feb. 6) – The local Over The Hill Gang chapter held its annual banquet at “Men Wielding Fire,” on Saturday. It was a festive night of food, drink, humor and reflection on the season past as well as a look into the future. And there was a great selection of free prize drawings for club members. RACING PREVIEW: FEB. 4-7

Even though there’s not much racing going on there is a major desert event this week. RENO (Feb. 3) – The Racing Preview for this week is still sparse but there is some action to be watched. Locally Livfast Exit 28 Motocross Track should have its usual practice sessions from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. And a special shout out for two area drivers heading to Yuma, Arizona. A little tighter focus on racing for this region as we get closer to spring. (RENO, Feb. 1) It’s Oval Track preview time this week. We are blessed with seven of these tracks in our region. Most of them have their schedules already while at least two don’t have their full dates out yet. This year we’ll see two special series. Racing is beginning to heat up and locally we’re almost to our first event of the year. This week’s Racing Preview is a mixed bag that contains the first major race in the country, TV and Internet as well as a serious part. First and foremost a local veteran motocross rider and announcer Adam Portue` has been going through some grave medical challenges as he battles cancer. It’s the lull before the gathering storm as major series are getting ready to launch their series. Racing Preview for this week again is a bit slim as most things are TV but it’s the lull before the storm. This area’s 2016 season will start four weekends from now. Locally Livfast Exit 28 will again be open for practice sessions from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. This of course depends on the weather. Racing preview this week has two motocross events listed as well as where to find the updates on this year’s Dakar Rally. While there is less than a month from the start of racing in our area there are two motocross races in California that area riders will be traveling to. Air Race Update with the CEO shows the event is moving forward. On New Year’s Eve day several people gathered in the office of the Reno Air Race Association for some business. It was to draw a lucky person’s name from a raffle for a car. Prior to that we had a chance to talk with Micheal Crowell, the new CEO of RARA. Racing Preview for this week is the slimmest yet but thing are about to change. Because after this weekend new seasons start to fire up. Locally Livfast Exit 28 will host practice sessions from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. For those competing in the Bishop MX winter series there will be practice at the Tri-County Fairgrounds, gates open at 9 a.m. Most of the action will be on the TV this week.
