RATTLESNAKE – GOETZ TOPS IMCA AS TRACK HONORS ARMED FORCES DAY. FALLON (May 16) – Rattlesnake Raceway’s latest round featured hard racing, kid’s rides and the track paid tribute to both active military and veterans on Armed Forces Day. In fact the night began with an Armed Forces Day salute where all the cars and Outlaw Karts were on the front straight. NNKC ROUND FEATURES MUCH HARD RACING AND SOME VERY CLOSE FINISHES STEAD (May 17) – The latest round for the Nevada Kart Club was run Sunday at Desert Park Raceway. Despite the threat of rain the “hurry up,” schedule allowed all the heats and races to be completed by early in the afternoon. Once again the 125 shifters ended the day with a barnburner of a race that went from green to checkered. “I could feel everybody as they were bumping me and stuff,” Steve Ryckebosch said after scoring a narrow victory. ‘I tried not to think about it

RACER HONORS CANCER VICTIMS, DEDICATES SEASON TO THEM FERNLEY (May 9) – An IMCA driver is honoring cancer victims this season. Steve Evenson has chosen another number for his car, a new wrap on it and is dedicating this season to a person that lost her life to cancer earlier this year. “This past off season from racing I was really captivated by the story of Lauren Hill, the basketball player from Mt. Saint Joseph College, a division three school in Cincinnati, Ohio,” he said. “She had terminal brain cancer and was 19-years old. “And the way she handled

Things are a bit calmer after last week when three regional tracks were in action. DWARF CARS REGIONAL HONORS FALLEN DRIVERS FERNLEY (May 1-2) – 95A Speedway hosted the annual Western States Dwarf Car Regional this weekend. Once again the race honored the memory of Dave Richardson and Leroy Kay, who both perished in a wreck racing accident two years ago. The event is two evenings of hard racing and some strong emotions. In fact the Dwarf Car drivers, after Saturday’s meet-and-greet intermission, did a couple of four-wide laps to honor their fallen comrades. RACING PREVIEW FOR THE WEEKEND This week has both oval and drag racing for area fans. Things begin Friday as Fernley 95A Speedway hosts the 2nd annual Dave Richardson & Leroy Kay Memorial race. It’s a Western Dwarf Car regional. On both Friday and Saturday qualifying begins at 5 p.m. with racing starting at 6 p.m. These little speedsters usually put on quite a show. Further east on Friday, starting at 7 p.m., Lovelock Speedway starts its 2015 season. Most of their events this season will be on Friday evenings. Over in Fallon the Top Gun Speedway hosts two

VCGP HISTORY MAKING DAY VIRGINIA CITY (April 26) – After crazy weather on Saturday Mother Nature blessed Sunday’s race with mild, sunny and dry conditions. And that set the stage for a historical day on the Comstock. On Saturday the pros, expert and amateurs race but Sunday is reserved for Novice, Women, Bombers and Vintage Bikes. And at least one hill was eliminated shortening the course from a 25-mile loop to 20-miles. Once again two head start positions were auctioned off to help VC charities. VCGP – MUD, SPEED, BROTHER’S DUEL AND TRAGEDY VIRGINIA CITY (April 24) – This former mining town comes alive ever April as the hills echo with the sound of motorcycle racing. This year the 44th annual Virginia City Grand Prix featured a new location for the pits and vendor area as well as a battle between brothers in the pro ranks. After riding as hard as he could Travis Coy scored the overall victory on Saturday, the day when the pros, Experts and Amateurs race. 95A SPEEDWAY – COOL NIGHT, HOT RACING FERNLEY (April 24) – The Fernley 95A Speedway dodged a bullet as a passing storm spared the oval. So, despite the cool temperatures, the track was able to welcome back the BCRA (Bay Cities Racing Association) Midgets after an absence of several years. “The car was awesome and it just got better and better. But for many this “Black Widow Beatle,” sat on the roof of an abandoned Reno Fire Station them seemly disappeared.
