  • RACING PREVIEW: MAY 26 TO 29

    OTHG Nationals at Fernley, Nevada

    The biggest racing weekend of the year is upon us and almost every professional series will be in action. Racing preview for this weekend has a variety of events to see or watch. Our region will see a trio of two-day shows in three very different racing disciplines. Down in Hawthorne the Valley Off Road Association (VORRA) has a 225-mile desert race. Friday will be check-in with an additional check-in Saturday along with pre-running the course and the race itself will be on Sunday.   • OTMX AT FERNLEY MOTOCROSS TRACK

    OTMX Hosted round two of the fall motocross series at the Sandbox on Oct. 11th. Here is a video of some of the starts during the morning. Lost track of so not sure about which class two of them are in. However most are correct. Looked like a great day to be racing and there was a wonderful rider count.   • THIS WEEKS RACING PREVIEW

    This week’s racing has a mix of two- and four-wheel action in our region. The Fernley Lion’s Motocross Track will be in action as MRANN ends its spring desert-racing season. It’s the annual Corey Herring Memorial race but this time in a short track configuration.   On Saturday, from 8 to 10 a.m. the big bikes can practice then at 10:30 a.m. the Pee Wee riders take center stage. They are followed by the Mini Bike race and later the Women’s, Vintage and Bomber race. On Sunday each of the big bike classes get their own separate race on the

  • THIS WEEK’S RACING – MAY 21-24

    This week’s racing has something for just about any type of racing fan. The biggest event in our area this weekend is the second round of the Over The Hill Gang Nationals hosted by the Reno chapter. Two days of racing, starting around 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, at the Fernley Lions Motocross or the Sandbox as it’s also known. And there will be the traditional BBQ after the races on Saturday. Racing for the weekend actually starts on Friday at 7 p.m. when Lovelock Speedway stages the next round of its series. ((Got late word that Lovelock Speedway canceled

  • OLD TIMERS AT THE SANDBOX

    TIEARNEY SWEEPS PROS AT MOTOCROSS   FERNLEY (April 12) – The spring motocross series ended here Sunday. And it was the first event put on by the newly reformed Old Timers chapter. Both president Jeff McCollum and Eric McElroy, with assistance from the Over the Hill Gang set the stage for a day of hard racing at the Sandbox, or the Fernley Lion’s Motocross Track.   • 4TH ANNUAL SANDBOX GRAND PRIX

    Fernley (March 29) — Four years ago MRANN and the local OTHG combined forces for the initial Sandbox Grand Prix. It’s a day full of motocross action on an 2.5 mile long course that ends with a team race. There are no points, money only bragging rights and a trophy. And its become one of the most anticipated fun events of the year. And once again the venue was the Sandbox or the Fernley Lion’s Motocross Track.   • GANG ROCKS THE SANDBOX

    FERNLEY (Oct. 26) — Things looked pretty grim for the local motocross scene when SMRA pulled the plug on its fall series late this summer. However the Reno chapter of the Over the Hill Gang had other ideas.   After a planned five-race series had to be scrubbed the club gathered its forces and staged a one-off race this weekend at the Sandbox, or Fernley Lions Motocross Track as its officially known. “We decided it was time to have a race,” said Layne Kolbet, president of the OTHG chapter.
