After a quick blast of winter like weather last weekend this week’s Racing Preview will have events running in more summer like conditions. RENO (June 15) —The big even for this weekend is the annual Corey Herring Memorial European Scrambles at the Honey Lake MX track. This also ends MRANN’s spring series with the fall series beginning in September. On Saturday, starting at 9:30 a.m. the Pee Wees followed by the Mini Bikes, V Women and Team races take to the track. BATTLE BORN MX: SPRING FINALE

A bit under the weather on Monday so this was slightly delayed. FERNLEY (June 11) – The final round of the Battle Born MX spring series was highlighted with rain and wind. Despite this over 200 riders were on hand, some to just race while others were after points and maybe clinching a title. While the overall turnout might have been a bit higher some classes have very good turnouts. In fact the 125/250 Beginner gate had 26 at the gate for the first moto and 23 for the second. LOVELOCK SPEEDWAY: FRIDAY FUN

Racing began a day earlier this week and there was a bunch of hard racing to get the weekend started. Lovelock, NV (June 9) – The second round for the Lovelock Speedway was on Friday and it was the first of a three-race series held on three different tracks. BATTLE BORN MOTO FEST AT WILD WEST

Mustang – The Battle Born Moto Fest returned to the Wild West Motorsports Park this weekend. Unlike last year it was a two-day affair with two very different events. While Freestyle MX was planned the winds were too great for that to happen. However the rest of the racing went on. On Sunday there was the Wild West Hard Enduro, a race that went for 90 minutes and the course was anything but easy. AMERICAN VALLEY SPEEDWAY: NPSA FIRST VISIT

This weekend there was a special first time visitor to a track in our region. QUINCY, CALIF. (June 3) – American Valley Speedway entertained their first visit by the Nevada Pro Stock Association (NPSA). For the pro stocks it was the Steven “Pops,” Rauscher Memorial race. Asked about going from the back to the front and winning the 30-laps main winner Shawn Natenstedt said, “A little bit of patience, definitely aggressiveness. RENO (May 31) —Racing preview this week picks up after last weekend’s marathon. And the beat goes on as there are two very different major races in our region as well as the regular events. The closest is Battle Born Moto Festival at the Wild West Motorsports Park. Gates should open at 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. GANG NATIONALS ROCK THE SANDBOX

FERNLEY (May 28) – A Memorial Day weekend tradition is the annual Over The Hill Gang National race at the Sandbox, or the Fernley-Wadsworth Lions Club Motocross Track. Riders from several Gang chapters make this journey for two days of racing, comradeship and a darned good BBQ at the end of Saturday’s competition. And once again the hosts was the local OTHG chapter. Scoring is kind of like golf as a rider’s finish in a moto gives them the number, which is added up after all four have been run. LOVELOCK SPEEDWAY OPENS 2017 SEASON

LOVELOCK, NV (May 26) – After being rained out two weeks ago Lovelock Speedway finally got its season going. Unlike the earlier date the car count was pretty slim but the track when ahead and opened its 2017 season. After the dust settled on the IMCA main winner K.C. It’s a marathon weekend for racing fans and a sure sign that summer is here. Memorial Day is the biggest racing weekend of the year and this week’s Racing Preview has a bunch of events to cover. DESERT PARK RACEWAY: NNKC – ROUND 3

The Northern Nevada Kart Club (NNKC) was in action this weekend. STEAD (May 21) – Desert Park Raceway echoed to the sounds of racing Go Karts this weekend. It was the third round of this year’s season for NNKC and 33 drivers showed up for the first event in summer like conditions. When the Jr-2/LO206 main began Issac Bourque was on point followed by Boden Barnwell and Chase Dulude. Eventually the race broke into groups dueling for positions. Racing Preview for this weekend has a varied menu for those wanting to watch or see motorsports. A week before Memorial Day weekend and some things are ramping up while others are quiet this weekend. But there is something for about any race fan. One track in our area is hosting three days of action this weekend. Running a bit late on this one but here’s the event that kicks off the truck and buggy off road season in our area. MUSTANG (May 13) – Nor Cal Rock Racing brought its brand of short course racing to the Wild West Motorsports on Saturday. It was a day of some wild and wooly action around the course as well as over the rocks. This time the course direction was reversed so the racers went from south to north along the front stretch.
