RATTLESNAKE – GOETZ TOPS IMCA

RATTLESNAKE – GOETZ TOPS IMCA AS TRACK HONORS ARMED FORCES DAY.

FALLON (May 16) – Rattlesnake Raceway’s latest round featured hard racing, kid’s rides and the track paid tribute to both active military and veterans on Armed Forces Day.

In fact the night began with an Armed Forces Day salute where all the cars and Outlaw Karts were on the front straight. Once everyone got back to the pits, racing began in earnest.

“That race was fun, the track was hooked up and my crew did an awesome job setting the car up,” Royce Goetz said after winning the IMCA main. “I was biding m time as I didn’t want to get into anybody and wanted to ride a real clean race. When I got the lead my car was coming in and Sciarroni’s car was going away at the same time.”

Then he gave special thanks to Bob Crossley, brother Rocky Goetz and sponsor Auto Marine Machine.

It took a pair of attempts to get the IMCA feature going. The first ended when Zach Cail and Jay Bradley tangled causing a full restart.

Once racing resumed Dave Sciarroni was on point with Goetz and Malen Gonzalez giving chase. Early in the 30-lap event two cautions slowed the pace.

But when the green wave Sciarroni took off with Goetz and Gonzalez not far behind him. In fact Gonzalez kept the pressure on until Goetz finally got past him.

Then with 10 to go Goetz decided to make his move.

Using the inside line he got into the lead at the end of the front straight. From there it was clear sailing while Sciarroni slipped into the clutches of Gonzalez, who later mentioned that he felt his was a fifth place car and was happy finishing third.

At the end the delighted Goetz took the checkered flag and did a victory lap to celebrate the win.

Just before the 16-car Hobby Stock field took the green Jordan Riley had to make a pit stop. So the race was held a few laps for him.

Once the green waved Dan Edgington was on point and pulling away from everyone. Giving chase was Ronny Goetz and Shane Cazel.

Two cautions slowed the pace and one of them came after contact sent Goetz backwards into a mud puddle on the inside of the front straight. The race had to be stopped so the tow truck could get him out of the mud.

Once racing resumed Cazel, who now was in second, made his move and claimed the lead while Edgington faded back to third while Chris Christiano finished second.

The final laps were a bit spectacular for Christiano as his motor was giving up but he wasn’t about to pit. While Cazel crossed the line, Christiano was able to finish second ahead of Edgington and Scott Tenney.

“That was great, there were some cars getting squirrelly, I got squirrelly but it was fun. I was biding my time a little bit as a lot of car were fast and there were some slick spots on the track. Someone would hit the water and spray up and make it slick. Into Turn 2 and Turn 4 a little bit.” Cazel said after the race.

Then he thanked his wife Starla and daughters Serina, Carly and Rachelle for putting up with him and added his appreciation for sponsors DOB Clothing and Atomic Stone. Then he mentioned his appreciation for the active military and veterans as that is what Armed Forces Day is all about.

Rounding out the show were the Northern Nevada Outlaw Karts. For many that night enthusiasm got the better of them so it took a few times to get every racing going.

This time there were six 250cc karts and after several attempts the race got going. In the end Grason Ternora scored the victory followed by Jayden Hopper and Blake Rauscher.

Unlike last year the Box Stock division has fewer drivers as many have moved up to the 250 class. However their races are just as hard fought and on this night Xavier Frock won the race.

The biggest class, which speaks well of the kart program’s future, is the beginners division. When things got going Guage Felzke seemed to have the kart to beat has he just took off and left everyone in his dust.

Back in the pack there were several battles going on as these youngsters were dueling for positions.

Although Felzke took the checkered flag first he made one critical mistake. After a race the drivers are required to go to the tech area but he went to his trailer, which dropped him to last place.

The result was that Brent Rauscher was declared the winner and Mallory Evenson ended up second ahead of Temperance Sherman.

Several girls compete in the Outlaw Karts and they are showing their male counterparts they are as fast as anyone.
