4th OF JULY PARADE PLUS CAR MEETS

RENO, NV (July 5) — Well the Independence Day celebrations are behind us. It was a barnburner of a weekend with car meets, racing and other things.

• For the first time in several years Reno had a 4th of July parade that ran along 4th Street from the J Resort to West Street.

The Sheriff’s Raven helicopter did a fly by with an American flag.

Just as everything was getting set to start the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office had its Raven Helicopter fly by with an American Flag.

Explore scouts led the parade.

The parade was “4th on Fourth Parade,” and at the start was led by an Explorer Color Guard and banner that was about two lanes wide.

The National Automobile Museum lent several vintage cars for the parade.

In fact the Automobile Museum donated several vintage cars that carried dignitaries at the start of the parade.

A Dirt Works truck carried this large Uncle Sam and towed a decorated trailer behind it.

There was a large float an Uncle Sam blow up in the truck with the rest was on a trailer.

The local Vietnam Veterans group was in the parade.

A bit later members of the local Vietnam Veterans of America 989 marched with a banner.

VVA 989 also had a decorated trailer that carried some of the veterans.

They also had a trailer carrying some of the veterans and that was followed by a couple of cars.

The RTC had a special but in the parade.

RTC was also represented as they had a bus decked out in a patriotic graphics that celebrated the 250 anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

Reno Mustang Club was in the parade and here is one of their members.

Two car groups were part of the parade. One of them was the Reno Mustang Club. One was a hard top.

This Reno Mustang Club member had red, white and blue banner on his car’s hood.

The convertible had a star filled banner across its hood.

The Northern Nevada Car Club was also in the parade.

Next came care from the Northern Nevada Muscle. They recently had a cruise to Lake Tahoe and back.

Taylor James helped get Northern Nevada Muscle in the parade and here she is driving her Camaro.

There was also a Camaro owned by Taylor James. Her efforts helped get the group into the parade.

American Legion Post 30 had a good Show N’ Shine on the 4th. Here are some of the cars by their building.

• Over in Sparks American Legion Post 30 was hosting a Celebrating American Show & Shine. Location was next to the 4th Street Post off at the Duby Reid building. Reid was a native from Virginia City that died in WW I.

Some of the cars were lined up by the Post Office.

There were rows of cars along the wall of the Post Office and along the post’s building.

This beautiful 1950 Chevy is owned by a Vietnam veteran.

Ths 1933 Chevy Coupe was a great looking restoration.

Another great looking was this beautifully restored 1933 Chevy Coupe along one wall.

Two American classics were parted by the front door.

Over by the front door were two American classics from different generations. One was a military Jeep that was parked beside a Buick Sedan.

Although the turn out was a bit light there were a bunch of cars and spectators.

• On Sunday morning Reno Cars & Coffee had their first meet of the month. While the turn out was less than usual there were a good amount of cars and trucks,

Two powerful exotics were parked next to each other.

Over at one end were two exotics, one American and the other English. A black Corvette was parked next to a McLaren, two powerful vehicles.

Cars at a meet are usually cleaned and polished like this Firebird.

Not far away was a blue Pontiac Firebird. Like the other cars it was polished and ready to be exhibited.

The Firebird’s moto was also clean and polished.

Under the hood the Firebird had a supercharged motor. It was clean, polished as well and ready to be seen.

You see many different types of vehicles at a meet.

Variety is the theme at every Cars & Coffee meet. One row had a station wagon, sedans, a pick up as well as a classic VW Beetle.

Like any meet there is a huge variety of cars and trucks on display.

• Over at the west parking lot of Baldini’s there was the first of three Brunch N’ Classics show. Northern Nevada Classics was the host and it was estimated around 60 cars and trucks were on display.

Here are a pair of Fords from very different generations.

Like any meet each of the five rows had a variety of all types of cars and trucks. Among them was a Ford Econoline Van parked next to a Ford Roadster convertible.

This 1950 Plymouth was on display.

Many are vintage that have been restored and given new lives such as this 1950 Plymouth.

While the Plymouth might appear stock it’s power plant is anything but stock.

The car has enhanced power plant. Under the hood was a Hemi motor so it had more power than when it was originally built.

Another restoration was this1939 Pontiac Silver Streak.

The interior has also been restored to its stock configuration.

The cockpit is stock and even has the original gauges plus the steering wheel and dashboard.

This 1935 Ford Tudor Sedan was another restoration.

One of the restorations was a 1935 Ford Tudor sedan. Its license is “RMRUNR.”

The motor is a1948 Flat Head V-8.

Under the hood is a 1948 Flat Head V-8 motor. This was a great example of a classic motor powering a classic car.

Fortunately, while it was warm, the weekend was blessed with good weather. This set the stage for a great weekend to celebrate Independence Day.

OTHER RACING NEWS

Lux Turner raced at Red Bud and ended up 23rd overall in the 250 class.

• The AMA Pro Motocross series was at the Red Bud circuit this weekend. Gardnerville native Lux Turner, who now lives in Southern California, had a bad first 250 moto but a better second one and ended up 23rd overall.

This coming Saturday evening Crazy D’ Hot Chicken will have a celebration of Life.

• Wanted to give everyone a head’s up on this. It’s a celebration of this young person’s life and happens this coming Saturday.

Trucks & Tacos meets this Tuesday at Toro De Oro Market.

• This Tuesday, starting at 6:30, Trucks & Tacos of Northern Nevada will meet at Toro De Oro. Location is 588 North McCarran in Sparks.

• There are a four things happening on Wednesday evening:

National Automobile Museum has a free day on Wednesday.

    – The National Automobile Museum is having a Free Day. They recently open a new Speed Street exhibit that features NASCAR Racers. The day should start around 10 a.m. and to until 4 p.m.

Wednesday is Cruise In night at the Sparks A&W.
  • Starting at 5 p.m. the Sparks A&W has its cruise night with a live D. J. and prizes. Location is 1311 Baring Blvd., across from Reed High School.
Wednesday is Bike Night at PJ&CO on Wells Avenue.
  • On South Wells Avenue, just north of the round about, PJ&CO has its weekly Bike Night. Starts at 5 p.m. and is a great way to see some beautiful bikes not to mention good food, drinks and company.
Crazy D’s Hot Chicken also had Bike Night on Wednesday.

– A little later, at 6:30, Crazy D’s Hot Chicken has its Bike Night. Location is 3652 South Virginia Street I n Reno.

Time to register for the Elko Trailfest is now.

• For you side-by-side off road types there is a Trailfest in Elko. Registration ends in a little over a week.
