RENO, NV (July 5) — Well the Independence Day celebrations are behind us. It was a barnburner of a weekend with car meets, racing and other things.
• For the first time in several years Reno had a 4th of July parade that ran along 4th Street from the J Resort to West Street.

Just as everything was getting set to start the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office had its Raven Helicopter fly by with an American Flag.

The parade was “4th on Fourth Parade,” and at the start was led by an Explorer Color Guard and banner that was about two lanes wide.

The dignitaries followed in vintage cars from the National Automobile Museum

In fact the Automobile Museum donated several vintage cars that carried dignitaries at the start of the parade.

There was a large float an Uncle Sam blow up in the truck with the rest was on a trailer.

A bit later members of the local Vietnam Veterans of America 989 marched with a banner.

They also had a trailer carrying some of the veterans and that was followed by a couple of cars.

RTC was also represented as they had a bus decked out in a patriotic graphics that celebrated the 250 anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

Two car groups were part of the parade. One of them was the Reno Mustang Club. One was a hard top.

The convertible had a star filled banner across its hood.

Next came care from the Northern Nevada Muscle. They recently had a cruise to Lake Tahoe and back.

There was also a Camaro owned by Taylor James. Her efforts helped get the group into the parade.

• Over in Sparks American Legion Post 30 was hosting a Celebrating American Show & Shine. Location was next to the 4th Street Post off at the Duby Reid building. Reid was a native from Virginia City that died in WW I.

There were rows of cars along the wall of the Post Office and along the post’s building.

Among the beautiful cars was a 1950 Chevy. It’s owner their Vietnam Veteran flag in one window.

Another great looking was this beautifully restored 1933 Chevy Coupe along one wall.

Over by the front door were two American classics from different generations. One was a military Jeep that was parked beside a Buick Sedan.

• On Sunday morning Reno Cars & Coffee had their first meet of the month. While the turn out was less than usual there were a good amount of cars and trucks,

Over at one end were two exotics, one American and the other English. A black Corvette was parked next to a McLaren, two powerful vehicles.

Not far away was a blue Pontiac Firebird. Like the other cars it was polished and ready to be exhibited.

Under the hood the Firebird had a supercharged motor. It was clean, polished as well and ready to be seen.

Variety is the theme at every Cars & Coffee meet. One row had a station wagon, sedans, a pick up as well as a classic VW Beetle.

• Over at the west parking lot of Baldini’s there was the first of three Brunch N’ Classics show. Northern Nevada Classics was the host and it was estimated around 60 cars and trucks were on display.

Like any meet each of the five rows had a variety of all types of cars and trucks. Among them was a Ford Econoline Van parked next to a Ford Roadster convertible.

Many are vintage that have been restored and given new lives such as this 1950 Plymouth.

The car has enhanced power plant. Under the hood was a Hemi motor so it had more power than when it was originally built.

Another restored beauty was a 1939 Pontiac Silver Streak.

The cockpit is stock and even has the original gauges plus the steering wheel and dashboard.

One of the restorations was a 1935 Ford Tudor sedan. Its license is “RMRUNR.”

Under the hood is a 1948 Flat Head V-8 motor. This was a great example of a classic motor powering a classic car.
Fortunately, while it was warm, the weekend was blessed with good weather. This set the stage for a great weekend to celebrate Independence Day.
