It’s the same one that Reno resident Rod Hall and his co-driver Larry Minor won in 1969. However one local track, Fernley 95A Speedway, had a booth and brought a brand new modified to display.   “I think it’s going to be the best year we’ve had since Dan Simpson has had the track,” track manager Matt Ramthun said. “We’re getting a lot of

Blue Wing Flag (March 1) – MRANN journeyed about 25 miles west of Toulon beside a not too dry lake for it’s second race of the season. The Wide Open 120 was the combined effort by the Cheaters and Rimbenders Motorcycle Clubs. Sunday’s big bike race, featured an almost race long duel between two young lions as they battled for the win.   “It was really good, really fast but my suspension was kind of blown out there. I have no suspension so every time I’d hit a corner it would just pack in and slip out but my stabilizer

  • DIRT TRICKS PLANS FOR GROWTH

MINDEN, NV (Feb. 6)– Dirt Tricks is like many specialty shops and businesses that supply or build quality parts for racers. And the Minden based company’s forte is manufacturing top of the line, virtually indestructible sprockets for motorcycles. A sprocket is a critical component that connects the chain to the wheel, as both are the driveline. And there is another smaller companion sprocket at the motor. “The front sprocket can vary from 12 to 15 teeth on most dirt bikes and the rear sprocket, on the wheel, varies from 45 to 53 teeth,” said Greg Burns, who owns Dirt Tricks.

RENO (Jan. 26)- There are many shops that support grass roots racing with general and specific parts. Some of those shops have become institutions and after almost 40-years in business Fibercraft is one of them. Racers in this area and Northern California are familiar with this shop, as it’s been involved in off-road racing, especially with VORRA, for almost four decades. “It started in I think 1967 by Jake LaFlure and his partner,” current owner Julee Lott said. “What he did mainly was fiber glass dune buggies. We have a body in the back he built and I’m going to

  • CRAWL MAGAZINE FOR OFF ROADERS

SPARKS (Jan. 5)- Northern Nevada with hundreds of miles of trails and dirt roads is a Mecca for off roading. And it’s also home to Crawl Magazine, a publication dedicated to the hard core off road enthusiast.     Oddly enough wanting to improve the Jeep he was using for commuting led the current owner, John Herrick, into the off road world. “In September 2000 I needed something to drive back and forth to work,” he said. “I was living up in Washington and had a 110-mile commute through downtown Seattle. I wanted something other than a car so
