  • AMERICAN VALLEY SPEEDWAY: DWARF CAR NATIONALS

    QUINCY, CALIF. (May 7) — This weekend American Valley Speedway hosted the Western States Dwarf Car Nationals. It was also the ninth annual Dave Richardson – Leroy Kay Memorial Race.  The two events honor two area drivers that lost their lives racing a decade ago. During Saturday’s playing of the National Anthem the Dwarf Car field did a 4-wide salute to the fans. Then they were joined by Gene Kay, one of Leroy’s relatives, driving his IMCA Modified and carrying the numbers both drivers raced under.   • RATTLESNAKE RACEWAY OPENS THE 2022 SEASON

    FALLON, NV (April 23) — Rattlesnake Raceway opened its 2022 season with a two-day show this weekend. There were seven classes on hand, plus two pro-stocks that had a demonstration at the end of Saturday night.  After the heat races there was a meet-and-greet on the front straight. There spectators could meet the drivers and see their cars.  Then it was time for a somber tribute to the track’s former long time medic.   • EASTER WEEKEND: DIAMOND MOUNTAIN AND RENO CARS & COFFEE

    RENO, NV (April 17) — Happy Easter to all my readers. There were two very different events this weekend with racing and a car meet.  Saturday afternoon began with the next race at Diamond Mountain Speedway. Fortunately the storms missed the track as on Easter Saturday they have a Easter Egg Hunt for the kids on the infield.  Before any heats got started the kids came on the infield.   • DIAMOND MOUNTAIN SPEEDWAY PLUS ZOO CRUISE

    SUSANVILLE, CA. (April 9) — Diamond Mountain Speedway as in action this weekend. There was a show Friday and Saturday and on Sunday there was a cruise to help the Northern Nevada Zoological Society.  On a windy and cool Saturday night the Mini Stocks began the mains after all the heats had been completed. First on point after the start was Anthony Hovland being chased by second place Nick Boucher.  There were two cautions that slowed the pace but each time the green waved again Boucher was leading the charge although Bob Kelly was giving chase.   • DIAMOND MOUNTAIN SPEEDWAY STARTS SEASON

    SUSANVILLE, CALIF. (March 26) — Diamond Mountain Speedway in Susanville, California opened its season with a good car count and some hard racing.  There were a few “first race of the season,” things but the crew worked around those. As a result the night ran a bit long but everyone was glad to be back on the track again.  After a series of heats to set the mains everyone was ready as soon as the track maintenance was completed and the order set.   • DIAMOND MOUNTAIN SPEEDWAY AT RATTLESNAKE RACEWAY

    FALLON, NV (Oct. 30) — It appeared that Diamond Mountain Speedway in Susanville, California would not be able to run this year’s Halloween Bash. This was due to the fairgrounds being used as a fire camp for those battling the Dixie Fire. Fortunately the folks at Rattlesnake Raceway offered their track for the event.   • RATTLESNAKE RACEWAY: DIRT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP

    FALLON, NV (Oct 10) — This weekend Rattlesnake Raceway had the official ending of its 2021 season. The Dirt Track Championships are two full days of racing, two separate programs where a driver’s combined finishes determine their standings at the end.  Sunday was the money round and the Hobby Stock class had the honor of ending the track’s official 2021 season.   • LOVELOCK SPEEDWAY: SEPTEMBER SHOWDOWN & REMEMBERING 911

    LOVELOCK, NV (Sept. 11) — Lovelock Speedway Silver State Racing has its third two-day show this weekend. It was also a special race as it was held on the 20th anniversary of 911; terrorist attack on America. Saturday’s event was called September Showdown, Remembering 911. To commemorate the event track announcer Davey Munoz, with the promoter’s blessings, had first responders at the track with their unit trucks.   • RACING PREVIEW: AUGUST 26 TO 29

    RENO, NV (Aug. 25) — This weekend there is racing in our region but only a few car meets as it is the fifth weekend of the month. However there is bunch on TV and the Internet. Biggest race in our area is the 5th annual Outlaw Flat Trac even at Fuji Park. The track is located at the south end of Carson City and its two days of intense racing.   • TOP GUN DRAG STRIP: HOT RACING, HAZY SKIES

    FALLON, NV (Aug. 22) — Despite smokey skies Top Gun Drag Strip had a sound postponed by the high heat in July. The meant another $5 Friday and a slight adjustment in the running schedule. Despite the haze Sunday turned out to be a great day of racing for all concerned. After getting times the eliminations began working its way down to the final rounds.     FALLON, NV (Aug. 14) — Rattlesnake Raceway has a two-day show on a hot, hazy weekend. Due to the fires in Northern California clear days have been a rare item this summer. This time the race-of-the-night came first when the Bootleggers ran their main. This class is a new version of Bombers. First on point was Jeremy Lampley, who later set the fastest lap at 18.095 seconds. Next leader was Joseph Keough until Taggart Garland took the lead.     RENO, NV (Aug. 11) — This week’s Racing Preview has cruises, car meets plus racing and some cancellations. Still there is something for about any car and racing fan.   • LOVELOCK SPEEDWAY: FRONTIER DAY RACES

    LOVELOCK, NV (Aug. 7) — After being dark last year due to the Lovelock Speedway Silver State Racing is open once again. This weekend it helped the town celebrate it’s founding with the two-day Frontier Days races. After Friday’s races it was apparent the track needed work so a group of volunteers pitched in running the water trucks as well as wheel packing and blading the track’s surface.
