    NNKC

STEAD, NV (April 15) – The Northern Nevada Kart Club (NNKC) opened its 2018 season at Desert Park Raceway, the club’s home track. With 40 karts on hand everyone was ready to start the year even if it was a cool and very windy day. One class even introduced a new motor to the club. The “Race of the Day” was put on by some of the youngest drivers and featured an almost “Green to Checkered,” duel for the victory. “I had a good start, locked up in the first corner and they just ran away with it,” 12-year-old Jack

DRY VALLEY, NEVADA (April 8) – This year’s Diamond Back Hare and Hound was run at the Dry Valley OHV area. This round of MRANN’s spring series was the Lassen Motorcycle Club. While the weather wasn’t so great Saturday the rain and wonderful weather Sunday set the stage for some great racing. And one of the young lions made the most of it. “The race was fun, it was really, really technical, which was awesome,” Drew Chattin said after winning his second Big Bike race in a row. “The markings weren’t very good and I got lost a couple of

  • RACING PREVIEW: APRIL 5 TO 8

    MRANN

RENO, NV (April 4) – This week’s Racing Preview literally has a cloud over it, as least for our region. A storm slated to hit our area Friday and Saturday has canceled at least one event and maybe more so just be aware of that. If all goes well Fernley 95A Speedway will begin its 2018 season Saturday. The track’s Face Book page is a good place to check and they are encouraging people to buy your tickets and pit passes online. The driver’s meeting is scheduled for 2:30 with a 3 p.m. start to racing. Here again weather may

MILLER’S CHOP SHOP SPARKS, NV (March 19) – Miller’s Chop Shop is another small family owned and run business in our area that works in the automotive field. However there is a difference as it’s not the usual auto repair facility. The inspiration for owner Robert Miller to start the shop came from a local track closing down. “It all began with stock car racing at T-Car Raceway,” he said. “We started racing cars then the track got torn down, then we started working on hot rods after working on regular cars then full time on antiques and hot rods.”

    NASCAR Cup

RENO, NV (Feb. 28) – This week’s Racing Preview highlights the calm before the action really gets into high gear locally. Nationally there is action in TV Land as well as on the Internet. Close to home Reno Coffee and Cars begins the month with another gathering at the Keitzke Starbucks on Sunday. The event begins at 10 a.m. and as usual it is asked that people don’t do burn outs or rev their engines too high so the welcome will continue. Other than that it will be a calm weekend, which is probably good since a major storm is
