DESERT PARK RACEWAY: HOT RACING AND BUGS

STEAD, NV (July 15) – Desert Park Raceway was the site of the fourth round for this year’s Northern Nevada Kart Club’s season. Warm temperatures didn’t slow down the racers but some bugs did, at least for a while. Early in the day bugs, flying ants, plagued the scoring tower as well as the corner stations. Fortunately Ecolab was summed and they made quick work of the pests but the break morphed into the lunch break. RENO, NV (JULY 11) – Another busy Racing Preview full of car shows with some cruising plus racing in our region. LOVELOCK, NV (June 30) – The Lovelock Speedway bid June good-by with another race. Although the car count could have been better there was some good racing on this Nevada bullring. After the Modified feature, winner Joel Myers said, “Robert (Miller) got under me in lap traffic. STEAD, NV (June 24, 2018) – Northern Nevada Kart Club staged its third race of the season at Desert Park Raceway. The event was postponed and rescheduled due to a conflict with the Pylon Racing Seminar for the Air Races. Despite the heat there was some pretty good racing during the afternoon. FALLON, NV (June 16) – Nice late spring night set the stage for a night of racing at Rattlesnake Raceway. After a good start the IMCA modified was a very different race than was expected. More like the wheels fell off the wagon actually. After the dust settled winner Melissa Natenstedt said, “That was a lot of yellows, two reds and all those yellows. Too many yellows that’s for sure and that’s never good when you’re leading. COREY HERRING MEMORIAL RACE AT HONEY LAKE

MILFORD, CALIF (June 17) – For the past five years MRANN racers have competed in the Corey Herring Memorial Race, which honors a young racer lost on Father’s Day. It’s also known as the “Go Big or Go Home,” race and again it was staged at the Honey Lake Motocross Track. Racing at Honey Lake is always a challenge as it combines motocross sections as well as cross country parts and includes a pretty big hill for the big bikes to negotiate. RENO, NV (June 13) – It’s another full Racing Preview this week and I’m adding a new section. Here in Northwest Nevada it’s the season of the Cruise so I’ll be previewing those. First however I’ll turn the spotlight on local racing then follow with the other things. Lovelock Speedway gets the weekend’s racing started at 7 p.m. Friday. MUSTANG (June 10) – Super Crawl visited the Wild West Motorsports Park this weekend. The two-day show includes a Saturday night shootout as well as some foreign drivers.What this sport lacks for speed it more than makes up in the challenges all the competitors face with steep inclines to negotiate, side hills where rollovers are a constant challenge not to mention getting around in some very tight spaces. AMERICAN VALLEY SPEEDWAY: PRE BREAK RACES

QUINCY, CALIF. (June 9) – Before the annual 4th of July break American Valley Speedway hosted another points race this weekend. There was some close racing and the Sport Mod class may have had the closest finish ever. When the green waved on the 15-lap main Tom Froggatt lead the charge with Brittney Nieman second. As the field headed down the back straight Richard Longacre used an inside move to take the point. The first caution came when Longacre spun then on the restart he came back to second only to stall in Turn 2 bringing out another caution. There

The big event here is the annual Octane Fest in Fallon. While there will be no cars or go-kart racing at Rattlesnake Raceway there are other events there.
